YouthWorks
YouthWorks is a summer employment program that connects young people with paid jobs and internships throughout Baltimore. Participants develop workplace skills, earn money, and gain valuable experience in a variety of career fields. The program also offers job readiness training to help prepare youth for future employment opportunities.
Youth Docent Internship
Youth Works invites students to serve as museum docents, guiding visitors through exhibits while sharing historical narratives with clarity and passion. Participants gain firsthand experience in public speaking, educational facilitation, and museum operations. The program emphasizes leadership, confidence, and cultural literacy, helping youth become ambassadors of history and role models in their communities.

Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI)
The Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI) is a paid summer program for rising high school seniors that places students at arts and cultural organizations. Participants gain real workplace experience while building leadership, communication, and career skills through professional development and mentorship. The program also helps students prepare for college and explore careers in the arts.
Communications Internship
Through partnerships with Bloomberg Arts Internship and Arts Every Day, the museum offers internships for high school and college students to engage with arts, culture, and education. Interns support summer and school-year programs, contribute to creative projects, and gain professional experience in museum operations, program development, and arts administration. This partnership has also allowed the museum to expand its communications efforts, providing interns with hands-on opportunities to work with the Marketing team on outreach, social media, and promotional campaigns. These internships foster skill-building, mentorship, and exposure to careers in cultural institutions, empowering youth to explore their potential while contributing meaningfully to the museum’s mission.

Field Trips to Freedom
Every month, children step into history through the museum’s Field Trips to Freedom program, an immersive experience that blends storytelling, music, crafts, and cultural celebration. Here, history is not a distant past—it is alive, tangible, and deeply relevant.
Crafts, Story time and Museum Tour
By participating in hands-on activities, children explore heritage while building confidence, leadership, and pride. In an era when culturally affirming education is often limited, these experiences provide young learners with the tools to understand themselves and their place in the world, ensuring that Black history is not only remembered but felt and embodied.

Voice of History Youth Ensemble
The Voices of History Youth Ensemble is a Baltimore youth performance group. They are a T.E.A.C.H. initiative directed by Deborah Pierce-Fakunle and associated with The National Great Blacks In Wax Museum.
The Voice of History Ensemble empowers youth to step into history as performers, not merely spectators. Through spoken word, movement, and collective storytelling, young participants bring historical narratives to life, activating museum spaces in ways that engage all visitors.
Beyond the Stage
Beyond performance, students develop skills in public speaking, collaboration, and historical interpretation. This ensemble positions youth as carriers of cultural memory, shaping how history is experienced and transmitted for generations to come.

The Great Blacks in Wax Museum welcomes all individuals, adults, universities, tourism, community, and personal groups. We provide our exhibits with self-guided, guided, individual, audio, and group tours. Request a guided tour or reserve admission and lead your own group. University student groups and K-12 school groups may also request a live virtual tour led by a Museum guide. For additional information, select a category below.

Great Blacks in Wax is committed to providing learning experiences for kids, teens, and adults of all abilities. We tailor our programs to fit the needs, abilities, and interests of people with disabilities of all ages. Choose a guided visit with a tour, or a self-guided visit to explore the galleries with your group on your own. Additionally, we can adapt a guided visits for school groups to the varying needs of students.

Exhibitons
National Great Blacks in Wax Museum houses over 200 life-size wax figure in dramatic, three-dimensional scenes that capture significant moments in history. Visitors go on a 5,000 year journey that begins in Ancient Africa and ends in today’s modern world. You will emerge from your journey with a greater understanding about a people’s story of struggle, determination, and triumph.
